Updated Sick Visit Procedures During Increased Measles Activity

At Fairport Pediatrics, the health and safety of every child and family we care for is our highest priority.

Due to an increase in measles activity in surrounding communities, we are taking additional precautions to reduce the risk of exposure within our office. These measures are especially important for protecting infants, immunocompromised children, and patients who may be too young or medically unable to receive certain vaccines.

Effective immediately, families bringing a child who is not vaccinated against measles to the office for a sick visit should follow these additional precautions:

• Please call our office from your vehicle when you arrive. A member of our team will provide instructions and let you know when we are ready to bring your child inside.
• Please remain in your vehicle until an examination room is available. Whenever possible, your child will be brought directly into an exam room rather than spending time in the waiting area.
• Children age 2 and older should wear a mask while inside the office, when tolerated and medically appropriate.
• Please notify our team before entering the building if your child has a fever, rash, cough, red or irritated eyes, or has had a known or suspected exposure to measles.

Why We Are Taking These Steps

These precautions are not intended to deny care or make any family feel unwelcome.

They are temporary infection-control measures designed to reduce the possibility of exposing other children, families, and staff to measles or other highly contagious illnesses.

Our waiting room includes children of many different ages and medical backgrounds. Some of our youngest and most medically vulnerable patients may have limited protection from certain infections. Taking additional precautions allows us to continue caring for sick children while helping protect everyone who enters our practice.

Families may have questions or concerns regarding vaccines, and we encourage those conversations. Our providers are always available to discuss your child’s vaccination status, measles vaccination, individual medical circumstances, or any concerns you may have.

Our goal is simple: to continue providing excellent pediatric care while taking reasonable precautions to protect our entire patient community.
